Friends, I greatly apologize for my absense the past couple weeks. We've had a lot going on, both on the farm and with family obligations that I've missed out on some releases in the meantime. I'm happy to say that things are settling down now, and I'll be blogging regularly again. Thank you to those who have reached out to me making sure I was ok during my silence. Anyways, as I'm sure most of you know (and some of you may have even been pulled for) we had our annual Wild Animal series model, Yellowstone, who appeared on the Wyatt mold in a pronghorn antelope design. Also, the Vintage Club had their final release of the year aside from the optional release: the gambler's choice. This year his name is Thunderbird and because Breyer always seems to use the molds that I don't collect for the VC gambler's choice, mine was sold. Silver is a mold I avoid due to him being too tall for my shelves. His forelock always rubbed the top of my shelf, leaving rubs, so I no longer collect the mold. He will come in one of four vintage colors: bay, palomino, appaloosa and the pinto Indian Pony. Despite only keeping two of the models from the Vintage Club myself this year, I will still rejoin for 2024. The holidays are just around the corner as we wait for three more Stablemate Club releases (the gambler's choice, the new mold and the optional release) as well as the final Premier Club release. We also still have Jota to be released, the fall Collector Club special run.
As we wind down towards the holidays and the end of yet another year, it is time for me to discuss next year's changes. Each year, I change my business handle a bit. Last year, for example, I decided to stop selling regular runs due to the fact that I still have regular runs that hadn't sold, since I'm technically competing with all the other dealers out there and even Breyer, as all of Breyer's regular runs are also available on their website. If I offered the same free shipping on $50+ worth of items, plus the costs of packaging and actual shipping, I'd be making about $5-10 per model, less if it sold through eBay and I had to pay fees as well.
My big announcement is that over the next few months I will be selling my personal collection on eBay. Wait... before I get a bunch of messages asking me why I would do such a thing after collecting since the early 2000s, let me explain. In 2009, I did the same thing. I had only collected racehorses at the time. Eventually I got tired of the bays, blacks and chestnuts with very few grays. In other words, the common colors. I'm starting to feel the same about my collection now. Looking at the same models day in and day out is getting a bit boring. I need some, I guess, fresh blood in my herd. Er... fresh plastic, I should say. I'm only keeping a few congas but the rest I'm going to try to find homes for. The lists of congas I plan on keeping is on my Collection page. Again, these will only be for sale on eBay, and the reason is because I want them sold off rather quickly. Due to the limited traffic to my website as compared to eBay, (screenname gbmodelponies if the link doesn't work) the fact that not all my models are wanted by those who visit my website, I feel they would sit for a while before actually selling. If you'd like to check out my collection, please feel free to visit my eBay page. There are some rarities, although the majority are admittedly the regular runs I've been left with from when I was a dealer. To clarify a final time, I will not be getting out of Breyers completely, just re-evaluating my collection. I will continue purchasing the club memberships each year, except that I'll probably be selling more than I will be collecting, so if you don't end up getting a certain membership, check back upon the release of that model to see if I'll be selling it or not. Also, as stated earlier in the year, I will continue doing Breyerfest pickups for 2024. My biggest change, however, is that I'll be selling customs regularly. 100% of the profit from my artwork will be going towards my small horse rescue. I will continue to try to come up with other ideas to keep traffic to my website as time goes on, possibly selling other horse related stuff like jewelry or soaps with mini whinnies in them in future to keep a steady supply of products in my store year round. I would sincerely like to thank you all for being loyal customers and followers of my blog. It takes me a lot of hours to keep it up and running, and I do it for free without ads to keep everyone in the know about Breyer releases. I appreciate your support! Brittany of Brittany's Breyers Blog When Breyer revealed Mojave and Full Moon Rising, I thought that they usually released more models than that for the mid year releases, and for whatever reason we are in fact getting more releases this year, just a bit delayed. If you haven't seen them by now, here is the rest of the lineup: I thought that this model would have been a good fit for Breyerfest, however Breyer delayed releasing this mold until now, and as the Hackney pony Norwich. While not a portrait model of a real horse, his name is a nod to the region of England where they hail from. He is stated to be a chestnut, although he has the darker points similar to the Secretariat model Breyer made for the Vintage Club. This one is a portrait model. It is the portrait model of Clooney 51, the famous Olympic show jumper, made on the Bristol mold. To me, he looks similar to Get Rowdy, also on the Bristol mold, except that he is a fleabitten grey whereas the other is a lightly dappled grey. It makes me want to buy both. My favorite of the three regular run releases is Cody's Wish. As a racing fan, I've followed Cody's Wish in real life, all the way to his last race at Saratoga in the Whitney Stakes. I was rooting for him but unfortunately he lost at the Graveyard of Champions. However, I would be honored to own his model, as he was a horse with a touching story that I think should be told. The fall decorator for 2023, which is a limited edition release, is Leif. This guy is pretty cool, I love the shading in his coat and especially his tail. He was painted in autumn colors with gold leaves blowing on his sides. Personally, I'm not too thrilled with the fall flagship brick-and-mortar limited edition, as he's another bay after getting bay Mariposa and Flor, as well as Bolero earlier in the year. Barranco is a metallic bay Peruvian Paso. He looks very similar to Cobrizo except with more white.
That does it for new releases so far. We still have yet to see the holiday specials and Jota, as well as the Vintage Club gambler's choice and the final Premier Club release. |
