In addition to selling Breyer model horses, I also run a small private horse rescue. While I am not (yet) a 501(c)(3) organization - meaning I'm running solely on my own funds, including sales from my website, and private donations - I am the most transparent rescue you'll ever see. On my blog you can read about the horses' journeys from rescue to rehab and then retraining. Any new rescues I take in will be listed below. 100% of the profit from my model horse sales (including eBay and Mercari) goes towards my real horses in some way. The following are the horses I currently have here at the farm.
Annie
|
Breed: Tennessee Walker
Color: Sunburnt black Unique markings: One eye blind Personality: Easy going and calm, likes butt scratches Experience level: Beginner Gender: Mare Age: 15 years old Height: 16.1 HH Rescued: December 11, 2022 Annie was rescued from the Big Lick industry. She was a show horse who wore those huge high heeled shoes for horses and thus her legs are a little rubbery when she walks and has issues with her hips that produces a humpy gait. She can be ridden at a walk/trot only, no jumping. She is blind in one eye but is sweet as they come and not spooky at all. She is easy to catch and the first to come to you in the pasture. She was a 3 on the body score scale when she arrived but has now gained enough weight to where her hips are finally filling out. We also have her on a supplement to help with arthritis. Annie is our herd leader and keeps everyone in their place. Annie is a permanent resident due to being half blind and hip complications from her Big Lick background. |
Diva
Breed: Morgan
Color: Black Unique markings: Gets dapples in the summer Personality: Social bee Experience level: Advanced Gender: Mare Age: Senior Height: 14.1 HH Rescued: December 11, 2022 Diva was rescued from auction with a huge, bleeding open wound on her face that needed stitched up. She also had overgrown hooves to the point that she was walking like she was lame. She was sold through the auction as being "broke" but when we tried her out, she was very nervous. We've since worked with her on desensitizing and she's become a very reliable mount, always going back to the way she was before, even after a layoff. She is more go than whoa despite her age. We found out that she's actually about 20 years old even though she was sold to us as being "12 years old" at auction and, based on her udder size when she arrived, we believe she was an ex-broodmare, most likely retired from being too old to have babies. She was very strong when she first arrived, often rearing when she felt fear. She had major trust issues, but after having foal after foal ripped away from her her entire life, we can understand why. She has come to trust us. She will lift all four feet just by pointing to her leg and loves grooming. She'll even "hug" you during grooming sessions. She loves to roll and is almost always muddy. |
Luna
|
Breed: Quarter Horse
Color: Grey Unique markings: Ranch branding on left hip Personality: Sweet and loves food Experience level: Beginner Gender: Mare Age: Senior Height: 13.3 HH Surrendered: October 2, 2023 Luna is an owner surrender that came to us when her owners could no longer continue her care. She was once a 4-H horse by her previous owner's daughter and is ranch branded on her left hip so we assume she originally came from somewhere out west. She was in major need of groceries and a hoof trimming, arriving to us half dead simply because her owners didn't know the feeding requirements of a senior horse, and will be our most intense rehab project yet. She is very well broke, neck reins and backs without even having a bit in her mouth. If she was younger, I'd consider her a beginner's horse. Per her owner's request, we have agreed to keep her as a permanent resident due to her age so she will never be available for adoption. |
Beau
|
Breed: Standardbred (pedigreed)
Noteworthy horses in pedigree: Albatross, Abercrombie, Adios, Hambletonian, Dan Patch, Joe Patchen (shares same grandsire as Foiled Again: Artsplace) Color: Brown Unique markings: Bird shaped star, a smiley face marking on his withers from an old injury and an arrow shaped mark on his back left leg Personality: Workman Experience level: Gender: Gelding Age: 16 years Height: 16.3 HH Rescued: February 17, 2024 Beau looks like Black Beauty, which is how he got his name. He is from the Peabody, Kansas kill pen and is a registered Standardbred pacer. He was vet checked, had his teeth floated and shoes removed but will be a major TLC rehab project, as he needs weight and has arthritis in one of his knees. He will likely need to be on a joint supplement the rest of his life. He arrived here with a small wound on his front right knee that caused some swelling but is completely healed now. We tested him for riding and he did good overall. He will need some miles on him to get him used to being ridden again. We were told he can drive, and he has been raced before, but we haven't personally tried him. |
