You know when a horse wins the Triple Crown, that automatically sets him up to become a Breyer horse, and so it is with Justify. To be honest, I'm not thrilled with this mold. I'll probably get him just because I do try to collect the "big horses" of horse racing, but I was hoping he'd be on more of an action mold. He is also being released on stablemates size and as ornaments. The fourth in the Stablemates Club has been released today. Here is Raleigh, a glossy buckskin pinto American Saddlebred mare. Personally she isn't my cup of tea (she is pretty, no doubt, just not a breed I collect) so I won't be keeping her. She will be available on my eBay page. Dundee is the upcoming Premier Club model... and look at his adorable stablemate namesake! The stablemate in all honesty reminds me of a Lipizzan horse although the traditional version looks more like a stock horse. Either way, they are gorgeous. Around Breyerfest, Collector Club members were asked to vote on their favorite horse from the above models. His name is My Strongest Suit and he will most likely be a limited edition for 2019, or possibly even the Collector Club SR for fall 2018. I chose the buckskin but the grey seems to be most popular on the CC forums so I won't be surprised if that one is the winner next year. Verdades will be released around the World Equestrian Games so be on the look out for him if you collect dressage horses and/or the Salinero mold.
For the longest time, I thought Breyer wasn't going to release much, then all of a sudden they began cranking out horses left and right. If you pre-ordered Fletcher back in the fall of 2017, you should have received an email asking you to complete your pre-order. It was $50 to complete the pre-order (putting Fletcher's total price at $70 including the pre-order price to reserve one) and surprisingly only $10.95 was charged for shipping. Usually for traditional special runs Breyer charges $14.95 so this was a nice break. Soon afterwards they released Aiden the second release in the 2018 Stablemates Club. I wasn't too interested in this guy and have already sold him on eBay. If you shipped him with Fletcher, you only saved $1 on shipping. A special run that was released only to Tractor Supply stores was Alba, a Clydesdale mare to commemorate the company's 80th anniversary. She was a lovely mahogany bay with perfect chrome, what you envision in a "perfect" Clydesdale. She has 80th anniversary written in gold upon her belly. Not sure how many she's limited to but each store is only getting in a handful until they sell out. The past few years, Breyer has released a patriotic themed horse to brick-and-mortar stores only. Last year it was Liberty. This year it's a clearware made on the Nokota mold named Illumination. I'm not particularly big on clearware despite this horse being on one of my all-time favorite molds so I'll probably pass on him. FINALLY Breyer released the winner of "Who Wore It Best" from last year's voting. She is on the mold I picked so I went ahead and bought her. Her name is Starlet. It says she is limited but I'm not sure exactly how many were made. I was a bit disappointed that Breyer charged $14.95 for shipping with her, considering she is just a large pony. Last but not least, Breyer surprised us with this beauty. If you sort of recognized the coloring as being similar to that of last year's holiday horse, you're absolutely right! Koh-i-Noor was remade using 750 left over Winter Wonderlands, giving him chocolate points to turn him into a buckskin and then was glossed over. I was on the fence about him since I already have Winter Wonderland, however Breyer said that some of the Koh-i-Noors were going to have sock variations and I luckily ended up with one with no socks at all. Also the horse I received looked a little darker in coat color than the ones in the stock photos. I'm glad I was able to purchase him because he sold out within a day at $75 and FREE shipping.
The first of the Stablemates Club horses, Kohana, has been released! I just received mine today. He is a beauty. I also bought him with a Spirit blind bag stablemate, of which I got one of my favorites from the series, Tomahawk. Actually Kohana and Tomahawk made a good pair, as both are pintos. Anyways, I'm not sure what to think of the new boxes yet. I had originally planned to keep Kohana in his box, however the one I received from Breyer had indents in the plastic part, so I decided to remove him. No biggie since I collect horses rather than boxes anyways. Also I was curious to see his box side, which Breyer never shown, and was excited to find that he has a blue eye on that side. I definitely plan on keeping him. Below are some pictures of the new stablemates boxing.
It is now that time of the year again, the time when Breyer begins taking memberships for the upcoming Stablemates Club! They've also released pictures of five of the six models that will be released sometime during 2018. The first horse to be released is Kohana, a beautiful Mustang pinto with mapped markings and newly added feathers in its mane. The only one they didn't show is the new mold. They've shown an outline of the mold above but not the color it'll be in. Another new change is that they will be shipping them in little Breyer boxes rather than their usual collectible drawstring bags. If you have not joined the Stablemates Club before, now would be a great time!
Honestly for some reason I was expecting the decorator from the Stablemate Club to come out before the gambler's choice, but I'm thrilled to announce that they decided to release the gambler's choice next instead! I'm excited to get this one whose name is Fylkir, as I love the mold that it is on, the Icelandic mold, and I love all the colors except for the pinto (really... how many bay pintos are they going to make?) although I was a bit bummed out that they didn't make a decorator for the gambler's choice this year. Frankly though I probably wouldn't have received one anyways, as the wedgewood blue from last year was quite hard to get. The colors this year include the bay splash pinto, glossy silver black, dunalino and a bay roan appaloosa that looks really similar to Scotty. Really, they all have coloring similar to Scotty, except change the bay pinto to a black pinto (albeit a different color pattern) and the glossy silver black to silver bay. Voila! You have Scotty! Not that I'm complaining... I loved Scotty too. I will update with which one I receive when it gets here. Update: I received my Fylkir and the one I received was the exact same color as my Scotty model. I will probably be selling this one on eBay since I don't really like to have two horses of similar colors. You can visit my eBay page if you're interested in purchasing him.
I was teetering on joining the Stablemates Club last year, mostly because I don't collect stablemates (although I really should because you can buy about 10 stablemates for every traditional model) but after seeing the beautiful special runs they came out with, I'm really bummed out that I didn't. Honestly the Stablemates Club was started for people like me who can't afford the $175 models from the Premier Club or the $135 models from the Vintage Club plus shipping and the $100 deposit at sign up. I don't even enter the raffles because $150-$175 for a plastic pony is just too much for my budget. My most expensive horse is Charlie and I doubt I'll ever buy another one like her. Anyways the Stablemates Club is only a $30 deposit with each model costing only $15 plus $5.95 shipping for six different models a year. The first model being produced is a beautiful glossy paint horse on the Thoroughbred Mare mold. Racehorses were what got me into Breyer horses in the first place so this one appeals to me a little more than Primrose did last year. I've decided to join this year so I'm really hoping there are some good surprises in store! They release a Gambler's Choice in which you receive a random color from several different colors, a decorator (this year's decorator is going to be a clearware) and a new mold. I saw a preview of the new sculpture for next year and I am in LOVE with it! I think it is much more detailed than this year's Django and probably looks a lot better in real life.
