It appears that 2016 marked the last year of the Mid States releases. Similar to Tractor Supply special runs, the Mid States were released to Rural Kings (and possibly other farm stores) across the midwest in the fall near the holidays. Where I live, we didn't have a Rural King around, so I missed out on most of the Mid States releases. I did end up scoring Chance, the 2016 Mid States final release, on Breyer's website. I will go over the previous releases. 2002 - ShakopeeShakopee was a grey blanket appaloosa. Rather plain compared to future Mid States releases, only 2,500 pc were made. 2003 - N'iekeniNamed for a small band of Native Americans, this horse was a beautiful grulla pinto. Although she didn't have the war paint of future Mid States releases, she did have feathers in her mane and tail. Only 3,000 pc were made. 2004 - NodinNodin means "wind" and is represented in the grey appaloosa coat of this horse. He has the usual Native American war paint markings of the early Mid States releases. 2005 - WapashaWapasha means "red leaf" and shows it in his chestnut pinto coloring. He has the Native American war paint markings that most of the early Mid States releases came with. 2006 - WarriorWarrior was a red dun with minimal Native American war paint markings. He represented Colonial Spanish mustangs. 2007 - MaminMamin was a snowflake appaloosa that represented the Nez-Perce Appaloosa breed. There were 4,400 pc made. 2008 - PuukuThis was a horse that I was saddened to miss out on. Not only do I love the mold, but I also love the added feathers in his mane. He was limited to 3,000 pc and came with a numbered COA. 2009 - Red RockBreyer took a break from Native American horses with the release of Red Rock, a red roan American Quarter Horse. Like the Tractor Supply special runs, Red Rock was limited to 3,000 pc and hand numbered on his belly. 2010 - ThunderboltThe Native American war paint markings came back with Thunderbolt, a grey appaloosa. Only 2,900 pc were made and he was also hand numbered on his belly. 2011 - KanaretahHis name translates to "the one who rides with the clouds" and he was done on the popular Nokota mold. Another I wish I had a chance to get my hands on, this grullo horse had feathers in his mane and tail. 2012 - ConstellationAnother quick return to horses without Native American war paint, Constellation was a beautiful dark bay roan on the well received Roxy mold. 2013 - MiigwanThe Native American markings came back in the form of feathers in the mane and tail on Miigwan, which means "dreamcatcher" and of which was a stunning bay roan appaloosa. 2014 - BrabrantThis year's horse wasn't even given a name. It was simply called "Brabant" and I remember there being some available on Breyer's website at the end of the year from overstock. Apparently the pearly bay roan coloring wasn't too popular. 2015 - SonselaAnother horse that ended up on Breyer's website after it wasn't completely sold out in stores. Sonsela was a beautiful dark bay appaloosa on the Lady Phase mold. 2016 - ChanceThe Mid States releases went out with a bang with Chance who, in my opinion, was one of the most beautiful horses made in this series. His red dun pinto coloring was a clincher for me, and I ended up buying him on Breyer's website. Will there be more in future or is this really the end? Well, I guess we'll never know. If collectors make enough fuss about it, they might release more in future, but with having overstock three years in a row that they had to disperse on their website, that was probably the beginning of the end.
Honestly for some reason I was expecting the decorator from the Stablemate Club to come out before the gambler's choice, but I'm thrilled to announce that they decided to release the gambler's choice next instead! I'm excited to get this one whose name is Fylkir, as I love the mold that it is on, the Icelandic mold, and I love all the colors except for the pinto (really... how many bay pintos are they going to make?) although I was a bit bummed out that they didn't make a decorator for the gambler's choice this year. Frankly though I probably wouldn't have received one anyways, as the wedgewood blue from last year was quite hard to get. The colors this year include the bay splash pinto, glossy silver black, dunalino and a bay roan appaloosa that looks really similar to Scotty. Really, they all have coloring similar to Scotty, except change the bay pinto to a black pinto (albeit a different color pattern) and the glossy silver black to silver bay. Voila! You have Scotty! Not that I'm complaining... I loved Scotty too. I will update with which one I receive when it gets here. Update: I received my Fylkir and the one I received was the exact same color as my Scotty model. I will probably be selling this one on eBay since I don't really like to have two horses of similar colors. You can visit my eBay page if you're interested in purchasing him.
