I'm getting excited for the holiday sales that Breyer will be offering this year. Last year I really took advantage of it and got a lot of great deals. Also with the upcoming season are a boat load of limited editions: Tractor Supply/Mid States special runs, Breyer web exclusives, Collector Club holiday horses, the Christmas horse Woodland Splendor and flagship model Glorioso! I bought Poltergeist when she was released back in July and Breyer offered another Halloween horse, Crane. Well, luckily he was released when I had enough money saved to buy him so... I bought him. I also bought two Grab Bags, the Halloween Grab Bag for my daughter and the Collector Club Grab Bag #4. Crane is a web exclusive that is another Halloween horse, this time in Classics size. Remember Ichabod from last year? Crane is his miniature twin. Since I didn't buy Ichabod because of his $60 price tag that I didn't have the money for last year, I'm glad Breyer offered Crane. I don't collect many Classics sized models but there are some exceptions. I'm glad they offered this guy, as I really wanted to get Kasper and Jack last year but they were sold out before I had a chance. I received my Halloween Grab Bag today. A lot of people weren't satisfied with it but I have to say that I'm very happy with it! If you saw my post last year about the Elf Grab Bag, I wasn't too thrilled with it since there were absolutely no traditional sized models in it, but I have to say that this one certainly made up for it. Overall it contained a nice mixture. In it was: *Traditional Holstein cow and calf set (this is probably worth $50 in itself) *Junior rider Ashley doll *My Dream Horse paint on canvas *Kona's Treehouse play set *Classic Morgan mare and foal set When they released the Collector Club grab bags in April, I was disappointed that they were sold out before I had the money to buy one. As luck would have it, I was glad when they brought them back this fall. This time I had enough saved up to purchase one. They only had #2 and #4 left so I purchased Collector Club grab bag #4 and I have to say that I was very happy with it! It contained FOUR traditional sized models! Included was:
*Traditional Saddle Club Prancer - chestnut Thoroughbred *Traditional palomino Marwari *Traditional flagship model Elska (I really wanted her last year but she sold out before I had the chance to buy her) *Traditional Aintree from Breyerfest 2012 *Metal livestock corral *Junior rider Ashley doll I had a Marwari once before but I sold him due to needing the money. The one I had before was a bit lighter with very limited dappling. This Marwari I got with the grab bag was darker, which I liked, and had beautiful dappling. As with the other, the paint job on this one was horrendous (I even found a red fuzzy stuck in his tail where the tail meets his body... I take that as a signature from the artist) but I think it is more because this horse would be a difficult mold to paint. The first picture shows the Marwari from my grab bag and the dappling around his rump/lower belly area. You can also see Aintree behind him. Breyer has a few limited editions coming out mid year. Here is a sneak peek at what's to come. If you haven't seen this guy, he was released as a spring special right before the Fourth of July. His name is Patriot and he is a translucent clearware model made on the traditional American Saddlebred mold. He was made to represent the United States flag. Surely a one-of-a-kind piece to add to your collection! He was limited to only 3,000 pieces. Poltergeist was the 2016 Halloween horse and was limited to only 3,000 pieces. The skeleton and the white areas on his body glow in the dark. I bought him when Breyer offered their free shipping for the fourth of July so I bought him for the same price that my flagship retailer would have wanted for him. He was sold out within a week on Breyer's website. This is my first Halloween horse, as I don't often collect them even though I customize them, but I really wanted this one because I love the Ruffian mold. Gold Valegro was released in honor of the famous dressage horse's win in the Olympics this year. He was limited to 3,000 pieces. Although I think it is neat that they did this, I probably won't buy one. Even with his gloss, he is still just a plain gold horse, which is steep for his $60 price tag. Xavier the Mystical Unicorn was done on the Othello mold. Although I love this mold too, I'm not too fond of unicorns or mythical creatures so I'll probably pass. You can't really tell from the picture but his mane, tail, hooves and horn are glittery. He really is a one of a kind horse that would be perfect in a decorator collection. He too was limited to 3,000 pieces and was offered for $55. There are two Tractor Supply special runs being released this year. The first is Santana, a beautiful bay pinto mustang on the popular Silver mold. He is very similar to the Treasure Hunt model released back in 2007 so had I bought that one, I probably wouldn't have bought this guy. At first I thought it was a reissue of that same horse until I realized that there was different facial markings and bay coloring on this horse's withers, but more white on his mane than the 2007 model. When I first saw Garrett, I thought he was a buckskin. It turns out he is actually a light bay roan color. He has small freckles in his body coloring that are hard to see in the picture. He is a Quarter Horse on the Smart Chic Olena mold that was Tractor Supply's second special run for this year. This is the Mid States release, Chance. He is a gorgeous red dun Paint horse on the Zippo Pine Bar mold. I personally am not a big fan of this mold, however I do love his coloring. Unfortunately I don't collect Mid States though. Glorioso is a grullo Iberian horse on the Andalusian mold. In real life he is more of a metallic color than the picture shows. He was the 2016 fall flagship model that was limited to only 2,500 pieces and sold out pretty quickly at most brick-and-mortar stores. Woodland Splendor is the last, but certainly not least in this limited edition lineup. He is the 2016 Holiday Horse. Being that my original Breyer herd consisted of racehorses, I am happy that they did this horse on a Thoroughbred mold. The coloring is also beautiful. I can't wait to see this horse in person!
