Pintos and Paints galore seems to be the theme for Breyer's Collector Club lately. I like a spotted horse as much as anyone but I prefer mine with about a 50/50 amount of white versus coloring. Too much white seems like you're buying mostly empty plastic. I know I'm probably going to get reprimanded for this but a good example is the first in the line of the "America the Beautiful" series Rainier. Now I love the idea of this series and that Rainier is a blue roan on my favorite Othello mold. Now for the criticism. He is supposed to represent a white capped mountain on volcanic Mount Rainier in Seattle, Washington but to be honest he just has too much "white capping" for his $175 price tag in my opinion. If you swap the blue roan on Rainier for grey he reminds me very much of Sierra Blanco, another horse that I avoided because of the amount of white, although Sierra Blanco was much less expensive. I was teetering on whether or not to purchase Moondance. I decided to at the last minute to go ahead and put in my pre-order after seeing her left side and because I'm fond of the mold she is on. There is a bit more coloring on her off side, still not as much as Rainer and she costs about half the price. Why the shading of her left side looks different from her right side, I have no idea. I guess I'll see what she looks like in real life when she comes. The remaining amount is said to be collected in April. I'm hoping that Breyer's Collector Club fall special run will be a solid colored horse after Abdul, Gideon and Moondance were all pintos. Another pinto that Breyer is set to release is Coco from the Stablemates Club. Her release has been delayed to February. I will probably sell Coco because I'm not too fond of the amount of white that is on her either but I'm excited to see what the next horse in the Stablemates Club will look like.
